Five Fall Favorites: Friday {Kindness}

Welcome to the second-to-last day of Five Fall Favorites! I can't believe it's almost over, it's been so fun sharing all these amazing books this week! Today, we're focusing on kindness. <3

1. May We Make Them Proud

This is such a powerful little novelette. May We Make Them Proud centers around on the themes of second chances, and finding dreams again after tragedy. Why I picked it for "kindness" is for the male main character, Jax. Jax truly does care about the female main character, Wren, and is incredibly kind and compassionate towards her even while she continually gets irritated with him. Overall, it's a heartwarming, inspiring story with some valuable truths.

Recommend to those who like YA Christian fiction and romance.

2. Back to Me

Oh boy. The time has come to talk about this book. 😅 Back to Me is a story that broke me but I also found so much healing from it because of its relatability. The appropriate responses and kindness shown from the side characters to the main character as she worked through her trauma warmed my soul and gave me hope. I needed this book and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I'd say older teenagers and up could read and enjoy this book. Just be aware that PTSD plays a major role, as well as church hurt and pastoral abuse (however, nothing is graphic).

3. Ruby Holler

Ruby Holler will forever be one of my favorite middle-grade books. I remember little me reading with my family for the first time for a book club, and I've never forgotten the enduring kindness shown by story's main couple. It's a bittersweet, funny, charming book with found family and a solid plot.

Recommend to tween readers+.

4. Freedom

I'm not gonna lie. Freedom is a heavy book. The themes of suicide, brokeness, and unhealthy relationships are covered here. But out of the darkness comes so much freedom and grace, and the main female character is extremely kind and caring towards the male MC. It's a weighty book, but the message is needed and filled with truth.

Recommend to older teenagers and up, and those who can approach the topic of suicide with a heathy mindset. <3

5. This Gray Canvas

This is another one of my favorite middle-grade reads! The main character, Ethan, faces struggles such as change and bullying, along with the difficulty of having monochromatic vision. I loved how Ethan's sister and friend were so kind and caring towards him, their relationships were so wholesome! It's very well-written and the plot is engaging.

This Gray Canvas is a clean read and would be perfect for middle-grade readers or perhaps as a read-aloud to younger kids.
